Reminiscing With The Present

Back in 2015 I dropped a blog called Reminiscing With The Past that dealt with giving advice with my younger self. It was basically coming from the point of view of the current version of me at the time and it was offering advice from everything that I learned. So naturally a part two would make sense but this time around I'm giving advice to my current self. Last entry was very well received so I'm hoping that this one will be too.

If you haven't checked out the first entry you can do so by clicking the link above or read this one straight through and then click the link at the bottom. Let me know what you think in the comments per the usual. I would love to know if there is any advice you guys would have to give your current selves if you were in the same position as I am in this post.

Enjoy!
1. Be Bold. | Now is the time to do things; major things. Living in the present is always the best policy because you never know what tomorrow holds. We live in a tumultuous time where on any given day you can die, so why not live now? It's not a Y.O.L.O. kind of deal by any means, but you shouldn't let the stresses of today deter you from creating memories for tomorrow. If there is something that you want to go for, do it now, there's no telling when you'll have the opportunity to do so again; if at all.

2. Confidence. | People will only give you the time of day when you believe in yourself. I've literally seen people who had no business doing certain things make it because they had the confidence and the know how to market themselves to make it appear that they knew what they were doing. Effectively the statement "fake it til you make it" really does apply to most people these days. But I wouldn't recommend that route, I would say become knowledgeable about whatever it is that you want to do and go in with your held high. Even if you get turned around you can still gain valuable experience by just showing up. But what I learned from exuding confidence is that people tend to flock around you and want to feed off your positive attitude.

3. The Past Is The Past. | If I'd known then, what I know now, I wouldn’t have changed. You can't go back and change things about your past, so why live in regret? Unless you committed some heinous crime, there is nothing in this world that can shake you like bad memory that you refuse to let go. They have absolutely no value you to and what you're trying to accomplish now. It's OK to store those memories of a rainy day when you have time to reminisce, other than that, tuck them away and push through.

4. Proper Appreciation. | Don't take the people that love you for granted – especially your family. Value those relationships and don't let petty stuff come between you and them. Tell them you love them and appreciate them every single chance you get. When they’re gone, they’re gone and missing them hurts worse than you can imagine. Work will always be there, side goals will always be there, money will always be there; but the people that make you feel the best about yourself and support you, right or wrong, won't be.

5. Success & Failure. | Both of them will make you or break you. There's always a lesson to be learned. When in defeat don't concentrate on the fact that you lost, learn from the mistakes that happened. In success don't become so wrapped up in the fact that you made it that you lose sight on the goals that you've obtained. Like they say, there are 24 hours in a day; spend half of it celebrating or in wallow, then spend the other half planning your next power move.

6. Tunnel Vision. | Don't worry about what other people have or their position in life; everyone gets there in their own time. You'll see that there are people that obsess over what other people are doing with their lives so much that they forget to live their own. There are also other people so focused on how other people became famous or into riches that they forget that all of them carved their own path. At the end of the day just know that you'll make it your way when the time is right for you.

7. Forgive But Don't Forget. | You'll struggle mightily with this for the rest of your life simply because you'll never understand those who can't with the parameters of simplicity. There are simply those people that wish to be the center of attention for good or bad reasons. These people often make more mistakes than good decisions. Your only job is to be the best person you can be to everyone until they show you otherwise. Just know that people are going to be people so you can't really fault them for how they were made. The only thing you can do is forgive them for their transgressions and carry on with your life. Without those burdens on your shoulders.

8. Motivate Yourself Through Self-Discipline. | Just like with tunnel vision, you have to remember to keep working on yourself everyday. This one isn't necessarily what it sounds like when you read it. This one actually means that you can do a lot, but you shouldn't do a lot. It's cool to multitask and all, but picking one thing at a time and knocking it out is a good thing because you can focus more. Trying not to multitask is going to be a challenge because it's always going to be something that you either need to do or you want to do. You have to find ways to stay the course, but once you do, the grass will be greener.

9. I Can & I Will. | The one thing that will cross your mind from time to time are those nagging voices in the back of your head saying you can't do something when something doesn't work out. Also the voices of the people that always question why you're doing something will be there. You just have to remind yourself from time to time that you can pretty much do anything that you want to do in life. This isn't anything unusual and out of the ordinary, you're human after all.

10. Take A Chance. | Life isn't about playing it safe; you do then you'll surely be left in the dust. Sometimes you have to put all of those fears aside and throws those doubts right into the river. I'm not saying take a chance that doesn't make ANY kind of sense, you have to take calculated risks at this juncture in the road. What you do now will make or break you and your future. But like the saying goes, you'll never win the big game by playing it safe, and you'll never know what could be if you don't go big.
